Meet the Artist: Virginija Ona Uždavinienė
Celtic-style Floral Artprints, a reproduction of oil paintings by our artist Virginija Ona Uzdaviniene, depicting scenes from the epic poem Sir.Gawain and the Green Knight. It was composed at the end of the 14th century by an anonymous author in the West Midlands region of Britain, and is considered a literary masterpiece of its time.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is one of the great Arthurian romances, a poem of temptation, knightly virtue and chivalry. During a feast at Camelot a mysterious knight arrives and challenges Sir Gawain, setting him on course for a grand quest in which his virtues are greatly tested.
Each painting depicts a stage of Sir Gawain’s journey to face the Green Knight. The paintings are an intimation of the themes of the Green Knight: a universal symbol of regeneration, resurrection, eternal life, signified by the ‘evergreen’, and, most particularly in Islam, al-Khidr, ‘the Green Man’.
